"Hello I am Miss Killey I am part of the Pastoral Care team and the schools LGBT+ Champion. My pronouns are she/ her and I identify as a Lesbian. I am open and proud about my LGBT identity; my hope is that this will help pupils to feel its safe to be open and proud no matter who you are. "

I wanted to be a part of the rainbow flag team because I think it is important that everyone feels included and is supported to be their true authentic selves.

Rainbow Flag Award

We were proud to achieve our Rainbow Flag Award in 2023 and we are currently working towards the renewal. 

The award is designed to help schools to make positive steps to support all pupils, staff and families; to feel safe and comfortable to be themselves by ensuring we are LGBT+ inclusive in aspects of our school community.

Celebrating LGBT history month in February and Pride Month in June are important dates on our school calendar.

LGBT+ Pupil Ambassador

As part of our Pupil Empowerment programme we have an LGBT+ Pupil Ambassador (Diversity & Inclusion). Our Ambassador works with the Mentor to introduce changes and develop their area of interest in the school. e.g. Pronoun Pins across school to promote choice of gender identity, supporting LGBT

LGBT+ awareness at WKS

  • LGBT Themed film club during wellbeing featuring the film "everybody's talking about Jamie"

  • Lessons based on influential LGBT people with each subject area.

  • School debate club with an LGBT theme

  • Whole school quiz designed by pupils on naming the different  LGBT flags

  • A rainbow day where pupils and staff dressed in colours of the rainbow to show there support for LGBT inclusion.

  • We have a Pupil Ambassador for LGBTQIA (Diversity & Inclusion) who will also being helping school to be more inclusive and supportive to all students.

We celebrate LGBT inclusion in all aspects of school life to create awareness and equality for all pupils.

YPAS Liverpool based LGBT Youth group from YR7 - Yr13 ( they also offer support up to 25yrs)
Self referral is available and parents/carers can also refer.
 
This group is specifically focused on gender identity which enables young people to realise that they are not the only ones who feel this way. It can also provide you with specific and relevant information to meet your needs.
 
This website offers information & resources for pupils as well as parent's and carers. They also offer online chat platform for pupils who may wish to ask for advice anonymously.  
 
Childline is a 24/7 service that can support pupils anonymously who may be struggling and need someone to talk to, they can also help by referring pupils to relevant organisations (including LGBT+ specific)
 
Comics Declassified is aimed at marginalised creatives, this includes (but is not limited to) young people who are LGBTQIA+, global majority, working-class, care experienced, neurodivergent, disabled, hospitalised, and/or experiencing complex trauma and mental ill-health.
